BIOMECHANICAL 3-D ANALYSIS OF GAIT AND RUNNING PATTERNS


Background


Walking and running are the most popular physical activities of human beings. It guarantees independent functioning. However, an injury often results in suboptimal walking or running patterns, which may be very debilitating. Even more so, continued running with an intrinsic  malfunction may result in serious overuse syndromes which are very hard to get rid of.

Walking and running are movements occurring in three dimensions and can only be assessed accurately with 3-D motion capture technology. The Qualisys cameras are capturing the joint angles at high speeds in order to establish reliable, valid and clinically relevant measurements.

The biomechanical variables are important in the clinical evaluation since they reflect anatomical (mal)alignments and muscle strength and flexibility deficits. They also provide indications of movement patterns that require special attention, and which need to be improved to prevent chronic malfunction and/or protect general health and well-being.

The detailed analysis of the movements of your joints and limbs can be contribute to prevent injuries and/or to improve your gait or running performance.
